A well-fitting dog bathrobe should cover the areas you want to dry without restricting movement or dragging on the floor. The best starting point is your dog’s measurements—not their breed or usual clothing size.
Before ordering, open the size chart for the exact bathrobe you are considering. Different designs may use different measurements, and a medium in one style may not match a medium in another.
What You’ll Need
Use a flexible measuring tape and record your measurements in the units shown on the product chart. If you do not have a measuring tape, use a piece of non-stretch string and measure it against a ruler.
Have your dog stand naturally on a level surface. Keep the tape close to the body without pulling it tightly or compressing the coat. If your dog moves, take the measurement again.
1. Measure the Chest
Wrap the tape around the widest part of your dog’s chest, usually just behind the front legs.
Chest measurement helps you check whether the robe can wrap and fasten comfortably around the body. Follow the product’s diagram if it specifies a different measuring position.
2. Measure the Neck
Measure around the base of the neck, or at the position indicated in the product’s size guide.
This measurement is useful for robes with a neck opening, collar, or fastening around the shoulders. Do not use your dog’s collar length as a substitute without checking how the robe manufacturer defines neck size.
3. Measure the Back Length
Measure along the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, unless the product chart shows different starting and ending points.
Back length helps you assess coverage. A robe that is too short may leave much of the body uncovered, while an overly long robe may interfere with movement.
How to Read the Size Chart
Check whether the chart lists recommended dog measurements or the actual garment dimensions. These are not always the same.
Compare all required measurements rather than choosing by weight alone. If your dog falls between sizes, follow the product’s sizing advice. Do not automatically size up: a larger robe may become too loose or hang too low.
If the chart is unclear, ask the seller before ordering.
Check the Fit Before Bath Time
Try the robe on your dog while it is dry. Confirm that the fastening closes comfortably, your dog can stand and walk normally, and the fabric does not drag or interfere with their legs.
Check adjustable sections without overtightening them. A useful fit provides coverage while allowing natural movement.
